I give individual private glass blowing lessons, usually twice a year for two or three weeks during my regular
studio practice, usually in the fall and spring.
Next session dates to be announced.
Designed as an intensive, hands on, introductory experience to glass blowing.
Please note that you will be working, gathering, blowing, and manipulating hot glass with minimal assistance but with constant supervision and instruction.
This is not a "pretend" or "tourist" glass blowing session unless you request it! *
You will learn the basic skills of how to gather glass from the furnace, sculpting, manipulating molten glass, blowing, and basic color applications.
One or two participants can sign up for a two to three/four hour private lesson.
Generally, you will complete a small sculpture and a blown cup or vase form at your first session.
Beginning to advanced glass artists are welcome. Improve on your existing glass blowing/sculpting skills.
Ages 11 and up with adult supervision and signed consent are welcome to take a lesson.
Please check with me before booking for approval of younger students.
Signed liability waiver required by everyone working in the studio. Bring family, friends, and food to watch!
Students walk away with a finished piece or two** and a fun yet comprehensive experience of blowing glass.***
These classes are offered around four times throughout the year during regular studio practice by Mark Russell.
Contact to book available day/session ruselglas@gmail.com - or call/text 423.972.9265
Gift Certificates are available after purchase. Additional days may be available.
* No experience necessary.
** Being the humbling media that hot glassblowing is, there is no guarantee that your pieces will survive the process.
But the process will be fun!
*** All glass pieces must be annealed (cooled) and picked up a couple of days later.
Shipping is available for a small additional cost.

All surfaces, tools, and blow pipes are thoroughly cleaned and disinfected after each teaching session and each person will have their own designated blow pipe(s) to use for the session.
When teaching first-time students, social distancing is sometimes impossible.
Disinfectant wipes and hand sanitizer are in convenient locations.
My studio is fairly large and you will not have a closed in feel.
We will be as safe as possible.
